You Are Special (Max Lucado's Wemmicks) Review
Punchinello was different. All the wooden Wemmicks in the village were constantly judging people by putting stickers on each other. Punchinello was always down on himself because he only got dot stickers instead of star stickers. One day Punchinello met a Wemmick that didn't have any dots or any star stickers. Her name was Lucy. Punchinello wondered why she did not have any marks. Lucy told him that she visited Eli, the woodcarver and her creator, every day. Punchinello decided that he would visit Eli too. When Punchinello visited Eli, he was told that it did not matter if you have a star or dot, but only what his creator thought of him.
This is a fun parable and it teaches a great lesson. Lucy visited her creator daily, so we should pray to our Creator each day too. Punchinello's stickers only stuck because he believed what other people thought of him. We should not care what other people think of us and we should not judge people either. I recommend this book and love the story .
You Are Special (Max Lucado's Wemmicks) Overview
Every day Wemmicks do the same thing--either stick gold stars or gray dots on one another. The pretty ones, those with smooth wood and fine paint, always get stars. The talented ones do, too. Others, though, who can do little or who have chipped paint, get ugly, gray dots. Punchinello is one of these. In this delightful children's tale, children will love hearing how Eli the woodcarver helps Punchinello understand how special he is--marks and all. It's a vital message for children everywhere: that God cherishes them just as they are.

Great for your child's self-esteem! - Janet E. Mitchell - Louisville, KY
I'm a psychotherapist specializing in play therapy. I work primarily with children and adolescents. I use this book in therapy constantly. Now that I have grandchildren I make sure they each have a copy as I feel it teaches parents and children what self-esteem really means!! The illustrations are great and the story very touching. A "must have" for every family!
Wonderful message - L. Purbaugh -
My 4 year old daughter and I love this book! I love that the artwork and basic story work for younger children but the deeper message of not defining your worth by how people judge you is perfect for older children. (And a good reminder for adults, too!) It's so nice to find a book with such a positive message. We can't wait to get more from this series!
