Cyber Feud (Internet Detectives) Review

Twenty-five years ago, Josh's father was unjustly blamed for starting a fire in Abbey School's technology block. Convinced of his innocence, Josh, Tamsyn and Rob begin looking for evidence to clear Mr Allen's name. An internet search leads them to ex-pupils around the world, but somehow someone always seems to be a few steps ahead of them. Just as Josh and the others start finding the proof they need, Josh is accused of destroying one of the school's computers. It is up to Tamsyn and Rob and their contacts around the world to discover who is making history repeat itself and why.

"Cyber Feud" is the fourth title in the eight book internet detective series. Like the others in the series, it is fast-paced and both entertaining and interesting. Although this wasn't one of my favourite I.D. books, it is still fully deserves four stars and is brilliant for encouraging children to use the internet. I would recommend it to eight to twelve year olds.

If you enjoyed this, I would suggest reading the other Internet Detective books, especially #2 Escape Key, and #7 Virus Attack, which I think to be the best of the ID books.

Cyber Feud (Internet Detectives) Overview

Years ago, Josh Allen's father was blamed for a crime he didn't commit. Now Josh, Tamsyn Smith, and Rob Zanelli use their contacts on the Internet to try to prove Mr. Allen's innocence. The trail leads them around the world--but someone is always a step ahead of them. Then Josh himself is accused of a crime. He swears he's innocent. Is history repeating itself? And why? (Digest) .

What I expected! - -
I finally got to read this book and it was just what i expected. It was great as of all of the Internet Detective books are. I even checked out the Web site after I saw it on the back of the book. The Web site is great. Cyber Feud was about Josh's father being blamed for a crime he didn't commit. Josh, Tamsyn, and Rob set out to clear Mr. Allan's name. But someone is always a step ahead of them. Then Josh is also accused of wrecking the computer class. I was very surprised when I found out that Ben Quinnlan and Paul Barrett ( Councilman Barrett ) started the fire. Now I'm waiting for " System Crash to come out.Keep up the good work, Michael! Your #1 fan, Deryck K.

A Mission to Enhance Homework - Rebecca Johnson - Washington State
Homework takes on a new meaning when you get to go online to research topics. DK and Google are producing books to make homework a journey into discovery. Information springs to life in color pictures, 3-D models and maps.

This book has a website dedicated to the topic of Dinosaurs. The links are age-appropriate and children can also download images or do additional research.

Some of the topics in this book include:

Body Fossils
Examining Footprints
Feeding
Dinosaurs on Display
Turning to Stone
Dinosaur Habitats

Children can see what a dinosaur looked like inside an egg or how a Baryonx looked while playfully catching fish with its claws. This book also answers questions like:

How did parents care for the young dinosaurs?
Was the Tyrannosaurus a hunter or scavenger?
Did Dinosaurs travel in herds?
How are Dinosaur bones collected in the field?
What does a Jurassic shark look like?

The Elasmosaurus is a fascinating sea giant and looks rather playful except for the sharp teeth. A few pages are given to creatures of the air and sea, but most of the book focuses on dinosaurs that peacefully roamed the earth nibbling on a shrub here or there. Then you have the Giganotosaurus that hunted by ambush.

The variety in this book will fascinate children and you can learn about everything from the size of a dinosaur's brain to the way a computer can manipulate an image to show what a fossil looked like before it became deformed and preserved.

Check Out Stalker (Danger.com, No. 5) for $3.99

Stalker (Danger.com, No. 5) Review

I really liked this book and the way it was written. It captures you in the beginning by giving you a look in the journal of the stalker, and from there it does not dissapoint.

Mina and Camille were bestfriends until Camille bacame popular and started hanging with the "cool crowd". She pretty much dithched Mina throughout thier Senior year, which was why Mina was so suprised to get a call from her. Camille asked mina if she wanted to go to the mall, and while hating herself for it, she said yes.

The trip started out rocky and didn't get better from there. As they were eating frozen yogurt Camille asked Mina if she would go with her to meet this guy named Andrew, that she had been talking online to. Mina told her she shouldn't meet him and they fought. Mina caved in and said she'd go, but Camille didn't want her to come anymore. She said she'd take the bus home and stormed off. Mina went home and then recieved a phone call from Camille's mother.

She asked if she had seen Camille and that's when it all started. Camille wasn't back by the next morning so the police were brought in. She was labled missing and they were looking for her.

In an attemt to help Mina went to Camille's locker looking for some kind of clue. There she met up with Camille's Boyfriend, Mick. From there they start trying to find Camille and in the end........

This is a really good book and so are the rest in the [...] series that i have read. The way ti was written captures you, and i LOVE the characters. A really good read, i would suggest tit to anyone.

Stalker (Danger.com, No. 5) Overview

The Internet...a world without rules, without boundaries. Where you can be anyone you want, whoever you aren't. And it's all just a click away...

Mina and Camille share everything. So why would Camille take off without telling Mina? The cops think she's just being your average flakey teenager, but Mina doesn't buy it. Camille isn't average, and she certainly isn't flakey. Then Mina finds a trail of emails between Camille and some stranger. Could this be the key to Camille's disappearance?

Mina decides to investigate on her own. What she finds draws her deeper into the mind of a killer with a twisted obsession. And Camille is about to become the killer's next victim.

Different people in different places. The one thing they have in common is a new address on the Internet: danger.com. Where all your fears come true.

You can't put this book down!! - -
This book is really good! It's addicting beginning to the end!
Story line: Mina and Camille were best friends starting from their early childhood. They looked the same and everyone thought they were sisters, they were inseparable, But one summer Camille goes with her mom to stay by the beach the whole summer. When Camille comes back she's a totally different person. She has new clothes, lost some weight, and even had a summer boyfriend. When they go back to school the following year Camille becomes totally popular and leaves her somewhat geeky friend, Mina, behind.
When Mina and Camille get in a huge fight at the mall about Camille's new cyberfriend, and how Camille is going to meet him/her, Mina tries to talk her out of it. Camille then storms away saying she's going to take the bus home. But when Camille is missing the next day Mina gets worried. So Mina and Camille's boyfriend go hunting for clues leading to her dissapearence.
This book has a great twist in the end and I would highly recommend reading this book.

This is a real thriller! - x file fan -
I love this book. Mr. Cray knows how to right. This story is about a girl named Mina. Her ex-best friend, named Camille, is missing so her and Camille's boyfriend start looking for clues. Before long they find out that she was kidnapped. Unfortunatly she dies so Mick(Camille's boyfriend) and Mina start to look for her killer. They uncover a BIG mystery.

Brilliant!!! - Birgit Grundler - Osnabrück/Niedersachsen, Germany
After a quarrel between the two ex-best-friends Mina and Camille, also called Camy, Camille is missing. Her parents, the police and the other people think she has just run away as it is typical for teenagers. But Mina doesn't think so. With Camy's ex-boyfriend, Mick, the scornful girl makes investigations. They come across a dangerous stalker who terrorizes the famous actress Deva Winter ... The case becomes more complicated but then a dead body is found - Camille's. Nevertheless, Mick and Mina don't give up and keep on hunting the murderer. They've just one chance: Mina must play the stoolpigeon in order to trap the Stalker. A dangerous task ... This book shows that life for popular teenagers isn't so easy as you might think. You can be lonely as well. Jordan Cray's novel is very sad, you sympathize with the characters, especially with Mina and K.D. and understand them. Impressing is Mina's change of character. The sarcastic girl becomes a strong, sensible, thoughtful and lovable person. It's not only a simple Internet crime novel, it has depth and truth. Once started the story demands to be finished. One of the best books I've ever read!!! I also recommend "The ShadowMan" and "Dead Man's Hand" .

Internet-linked Children's World Cookbook Review

I collect children's cookbooks. "The Usborne Internet-linked Children's World Cookbook" is the best I have found so far. Why? Let me count the reasons:

1. This softcover 8 1/2 x 11 is the perfect size. It mostly stays open, except towards the front and back, then just place a potato or whatever you have on hand to hold it open.

2. Bright, colorful, inviting, with pictures on EVERY page!

3. Text is not overwhelming! Easy to read!

4. Each recipe has a picture of the finished product, and step by step instructions in colorful illustrations.

5. Each recipe is taken from somewhere in the world (thus the title) with side notes pertaining to ingredients. For example, here is peanut bread made from groundnuts (peanuts) in Africa. One note is about African grains and the other is Groundnut paste.

6. 27 countries or continents are represented

7. My favorite section occurs every 3 or 4 countries: seven unique sections including Fruit around the world--a beautiful display of opened and unopened fruit with a brief description of flavor and how to open and eat. Mango, kiwi, kiwano (horned melon), Sharon fruit (persimmon), physalis, mangosteen, kumquats, tamarillo, star fruit, papaya, passion fruit, guava, pomegranate, lychees, and pineapple. This section alone is worth the cost of the book. What a teaching experience!

Other sections include breads from around the world, cheeses, spices, cakes and pastries, vegetables, and Mediterranean ingredients. Each is as educational and colorful as the other.

The recipes need supervision, of course, for younger children, but are manageable for older ones. They include such tasty treats as brownies from the United States, pancakes from Canada, tacos from Latin America with the accompaniments and their recipes, mango slushy from the Caribbean, bobotie from Africa (an egg, ground meat, curry casserole), and scones from England with a section on afternoon tea.

Ever tasted Lebkuchen from Germany, or goulash from Hungary, or Red Fruit Pudding from Norway, or Jansson's temptation from Sweden (potatoes and anchovies baked in a milk base), or Smorrebrod (open-face sandwiches) from Denmark? Or tabboule from the Middle East? Or Lamingtons from Australia?

This is a cookbook to own, whether for you or your child. So much flavor, so little time. So much aroma, just invite me in!

Internet-linked Children's World Cookbook Overview

This cookbook presents a taste of world cuisine combined with a visual round-the-world trip. The recipes should inspire readers to experience new dishes. Each recipe is illustrated highlighting cooking techniques and ingredients. It features easy access to web sites and free downloadable recipes and lists of ingredients suitable for complete beginners providing a practical resource for homework.

Recipes seem highly American - Love to Cook w/ Kids -
The recipes seemed somewhat suspect to me as to their authenticity. Pancakes with maple syrup is the most unique canadian recipe they could find? And do people in Mexico put sour cream on their tacos? Do they even use ground beef in their tacos more than shredded meat? The book says all Latin American countries eat tomatoes, chili peppers, corn and beans. Our exchange students from Argentina this year said they don't have tortillas there and they almost never ate beans. I was hoping for flavors from other countries without the expense of world travel, but I'm just not sure I am getting them.

A Cultural Experience - L. Reynolds - Kansas City, MO
I highly recommend this book. The recipes are easy to follow and the ingredients are easy to come by. Every so often in the book they have a couple pages featuring examples of spices of the world, fruit of the world, bread of the world, etc. The recipes are healthy and delicious. There is a lot of information about the country and the food that comes from that country. It's one of our family favorites.

Sticks--The For Boys Only Version--Because Sticks Are Also People Review

Sticks--The For Boys Only Version--Because Sticks Are Also People Overview

This is a great little book and this one is meant just for boys, the first book to be published in Penelope Dyan's "Penny Mouse Early Reader Series," in the For Boys Only Version. It is a book meant to encourage reading, creativity and the fun of learning all wrapped into one! The concept is simple, but the meaning is deep. Everything about Dyan is more than it seems and less than it seems. And basically, this is a book meant for fun that a teacher can either take into the classroom or a mom can read at home, and the beauty of the poetry line is that the children can guess what comes next and begin the process of reading as their minds gravitate toward the creative, To do a book like this, you have to be able think like a child. Dyan has certainly done that! So parents, please enjoy this book with your kids, and teachers, please enjoy yourselves as well, because this is exactly why Dyan created these books! Watch for more Penny Mouse Early Readers,' because they will be coming out soon! Written by a former teacher, and intended just for you, it's Penny Mouse all the way! Major disappointment - J. Spiegel -
I also chose this book because I have liked all the other Clancy books I have read. This one was a definite disappointment. None of the excitement or intrigue of his other works ..... makes me wonder if he even wrote it. Too bad. Tom Clancy is one of my favorite authors

Very poor work - ragrillo - Winston-Salem, NC
I am very confused with this Clancy attempt at what it would seem as teen literature. A very dull story, almost obvious. Too boring for adults, yet confusing and truculent for kids.

Cold Case - Andrew Goens - Cerritos, CA USA
I choose this book because I like Tom Clancy novels. Although I like Tom Clancy novels I think this one could have had more action in it instead of trying to solve an easy mystery. Perhaps if this book were more of an adult book than it would have been much more interesting.
The book is mainly about a team of Net Force Explorers who find themselves in a homicide case. The only thing they have as a lead is a paper with addresses and numbers that were scratched out.
IF you would like to read this book go ahead but I don't recommend it.

This book is only good for starting fires. - Birdfeed - Troy, OH USA
Ok I love Tom Clancy's books, but this one (disappoints). If you are going to read the Tom Clancy Net Force series, only read the adult level books. These younge adult books (stink) and are an embarrassment to Tom Clancy's name. The only good books are #1-6, dont waste your time reading anything after that.

Check Out Tie Fighter Collector's Cd-ROM: The Official Strategy Guide

Tie Fighter Collector's Cd-ROM: The Official Strategy Guide Review

A great reference to a great game. Rusel Demaria pads out the dry strategy sections with some fan-fiction to flesh out the story. It reminds me of the "choose your own adventure" books from the 1980s, which isn't a bad thing. Without it, this would be a dry tome full of stats and tables, the kind of thing one could print from an online listing.

The only criticism I have is that laying all the code on the table like this takes away a lot of the mystery and fun of the game -- it becomes painfully clear that it's a computer program when you know all the trigger points for the game's events. For the purest experience, use this as a reference if you get stuck, not as a companion piece to every mission, lest you spoil some of the surprises.

Tie Fighter Collector's Cd-ROM: The Official Strategy Guide Overview

Based on the classic Star Wars series, here is the official strategy companion to TIE Fighter. The sequel to the wildly successful X-Wing, this game features improved effects and an enhanced storyline. Ideal for gamers using PC's, game consoles, and multimedia, this guide comes from the author of such hits as MYST and The 7th Guest.

Colorful, but basically expanded rule book - -
This book might be helpful if you either: 1) Bought the Digi-battle card game and didn't quite understand all the rules. 2) Are thinking about getting into the game and are wondering what it involves. 3) Want a lot of cool pictures of Digimon cards.

There are some useful tables in this book, like which cards you need to play to get to the next level in different situations, but they completely ignore all the cards in the booster decks.

The sad thing is that after a few chapters, the book jumps off talking about the TV series, the animated series cards, and completely ignores the game.

A nice introduction to the game, and the checklist is extremely cool, but if you're already a player and looking to enhance your skills, this is not the book for you.

skimpy - W Boudville - Terra, Sol 3
The book has very little content. It does a brief job of mentioning various electronic technologies that impact the mass consumer market. Telephones, TVs, cell phones, GPS, personal computers and even DVDs. The latter were only just being introduced when the book was written.

Perhaps the book is meant for a reader with a short attention span, like in primary school. But even so, there'd be students willing to peruse a much longer account.
